Python != Java
This blog entry by Phillip J Eby sparked Ryan Tomayko to explore the topic a bit more in-depth. The first post titled, The Static Method Thing, goes in depth about how Python Class methods are not Java Static methods. His next article titled, Getters/Setters/Fuxors dives into the differences in approaches between the two languages uses of getters and setters.

Anyone coming from Java who is interested in Python should read these.
